16th? snap im in transit, and still waiting on a new wheelset, SMASH IT benzy!
might have to make an appearance for this one...
Its actually the morning of the swap meet.
Maybe we should meet there before the ride....
That's what I was thinking, great place to meet, plenty of good coffee around that area. What do peeps (even mad peeps?) think about an earlier start, say 11/11:30?
I'm down.. Finally! Just let me know when and where we are meeting.. Earlier is better for this marathon ride.. It will give us time to rest in Franga if we need..
Yeah I'm thinking earlier,10 /10.30 on the road
and riding.
sweet, i've been meaning hit up a sunday session for a while now, looks like the perfect opportunity. think the swap meet starts at 10 wouldn't mind checking that out first
One other thing.. Last time a few of us were under prepared.. I suggest we each bring our own water and protein bars etc. And for those who decide to wear jeans.. Enjoy the chafe.. Although you will look cool..
For sure. Come prepared. It's about 90-100kms if we take the bay the whole way. If peeps meet at the swap meet, those who want to buy shit can get there early, and then we can be on our way by 10:30, thoughts?
Yup.. What Trigger said..
It will probably around a 5hr round trip.. So the earlier the better..
There is a prize if you do it carrying a frame
from the swap meet and a pair of non stretch
skin tight jeans!
What about if you buy a complete bike at the meet, then pop it up, both frames, all the way to franga?
i'm really into this... but... having it the day of the swap meet will mean some people will hurt trying to beat darkness i suspect.
i make it about 100km return which will put it at about 4hrs (roughly) saddle time. thats without thinking about what happens with a headwind...
add in break time and you are looking at 5.5-6 hrs at least. dark starts at about 5ish.
we will be struggling to get people away from the swap meet by 11 (it starts at 10 for buyers) and anyone who buys something will 'just want to pop home to drop it off' or will suddenly pass on the ride as they got some new bars. any later and its going to be tighter.
remember crankys is a 'no drop' ride so we will be going as fast as the 'slowest' rider.
another weekend where you arent competing with andy and his swapmeet will get a better turn up i think or maybe a special edition of crankys on a saturday?
oh and +10000 for evisus comments.
this is definitely one for team secret spandex.
think about some simple light snacks (choclolate, BANANAS, nuts) and a proper sized water bottle. if the wind is up you will want more water than you think.
also dont rely on someone having tubes/tools for your flat... i'd suspect the usual benefactors will be travelling lighter than normal and if they pop a tube first...
Well......just like the t-shirt saga, another cog (pun?) is thrown into the works.
What does everyone think of this one?
I think that I don't care when it is, I'll be there.
Looking at BOM's predictions for this weekend, Saturday sounds like it might be the nicer day to do it -"Mostly sunny. Light winds". Or maybe just the following weekend. IF there is an issue with this Sunday.
I will be posting the update tonight.
